About Me
My name is Kaliyah Sturges I'm 17 years old and I'm currently a Senior attending Sports and Medical Science Academy. My backgrounds of who I am comes from being raised in a family/community that taught me to follow my dreams and desires; to love myself and know each day I wake up I have a purpose, which I struggled with because I did not understand my purpose. With the death of my father at the age of 5, my maternal mother of 12, and my god sister suicide at 13, I went through a great state of depression. When trying to find my inner peace, I struggled with befriending my peers due to being socially awkward and found it very difficult to speak to others about my pain. I learned that the pain I endured has empowered my life, my identity, and enhanced my understanding of my talents. During this time I found my love for animals and later understood the therapeutic benefits animals brought me, it helped me transform into the person I desired to be as a child. After overcoming the pain I've endured, I understood the important it was to express your pain. I found great joy in helping others deal with grief, help people finding self love, finding small businesses that can be useful for locals in our community, and showing awareness to businesses in our community.

Mission Statement
My mission is to show awareness to Tails of Joy, which will allow me to show the people in my community how important mental health, and how to safely cope. I hope that I can help people physically, emotionally, or mentally even if I only help one person. I hope that I can be that person people can come to and ask for help since I wasn't able to have a person like that in my life. I've been told that I can be very honest at times to where I can come off as rude while others appreciate how straightforward I can be and being shy at times, so this project can help get me out of my comfort zone and work on my strengths. I plan to enroll in Capital Community College in fall of 2021 study criminology, then will transfer to Howard University or University of New Haven to obtain my masters in forensics science.
